Not a lot . . . but, so what?

This week, I'm sad to say has been kind of blah.  Not a whole lot of fun, exciting things going on.  Evidently my chocolate intake hasn't been sufficient to keep me up and happy! :)

However, I will report that the new kitchen cabinet doors were put on, and new handles installed.  I kinda hate them.  I really do.  Lane chose them and through some crazy temporary lack of judgement, didn't ask me what I wanted.  I'm sorry, was he under the impression that he rules the kitchen?  I think not!  :)  But, apparently, his queer eye for the straight guy side was coming out, and he chose these totally contemporary handles that don't at all match the rest of the house.  Oh well.  I'll let you decide when I post pictures with the completed cabinets, because the top trim is still MIA, as well as my bathroom cabinets and sinks!  I am sick of having to use the powder room to brush my teeth and wash my face at night, but I'll be thrilled when we have our new cabinets and counters that aren't midget height! :)

So on to some random ramblings. . .

My week was kinda messed up starting with a Tuesday morning text from the pre-school teacher saying her kid was puking and pre-school was cancelled.  Addi had been dying to go to school all through spring break, and was sooooo excited to go.  I had to let her down and say there was no school, but don't worry, we would go on Thursday.  Well, Thursday came and our pre-school was cancelled again!!!  Well, Addi wasn't having any of that.  She was soooo mad.  I have to say, I was mad too, because I play tennis on Thursdays, and couldn't find anyone to watch her, so I had to have someone play for me, and we went and watched. :(

By Friday morning, Addi had her backpack packed and ready, and she told me she was going to school.  I had to let her know Friday isn't school, we go to the gym on Fridays.  She was very upset and insisted she was going to school.  I had to explain the best I could that her teacher couldn't do pre-school and we were going to the gym instead where she would have lots of fun.

Then from the back seat of the car I hear, "OK - THAT'S IT!!!  YOU ARE THE MEANEST MOM IN THE WHOLE WORLD!  YOU WON'T LET ME GO TO SCHOOL!"  I wanted to burst out laughing, but held it in and said, "What?"  She repeats , "That's it!!! you are so so so mean mom!"

So, I guess no mother of the year this week.

Course, she had changed her mind by Friday night when I took the kids to see Tangled in 3-D.  Lane was at the Suns' game, and I didn't want to sit home with the kids, so we went to the movie.    Gotta love the dollar movies - though they charge you $4 a kid for the dang 3-D movies!

How's this for a Friday night date?

Saturday morning dawned sunny and beautiful.  Perfect for a 30 mile bike ride and 1/2 mile swim with my friend Lisa.  Love those friend bonding times! :)

I also got all domestic when I got home and decided to make some homemade bread.  Yum!  Too bad I forgot I had a YW broadcast with Kayla at 5.  The bread was rising and I had to leave!  So, I left instructions with Lane (who should be savvy in the kitchen - seeing as he picked the handles! :) to put the bread in the oven and set the timer.  He did, and this is what we got.

Oops!  Note - remove the rack on top of the bread you are putting in, because the bread rises in the oven while baking!  Ugh!  However, it tastes sooooo good, so if you just don't look at the little burned indent from the rack above, you would thoroughly enjoy this bread! :)

Ended the week with a hot date with Lane seeing Limitless last night.  I decided I could watch Bradley Cooper all day :).  The movie was pretty good too - although quite "trippy".

A little side note - Lane has been feeling pretty good after his 2nd round of this chemo.  We are so glad about that.  Four more rounds to go!  He is truly a trooper.

So here's to a good week full of aerobics, tennis, lessons, kids, piano, and of course . . . chocolate. :)

How I spent my spring break . . . written by Addi (if she could write)

Our spring break was kind of fun.  Mom and dad said we were going to go to Las Vegas.  Then, they changed their minds.  Something about dad not wanting to be trapped in the car for  hours with me whining, and mom not wanting to have to entertain us all day while dad was at the trade show he was going to.  So, dad went to the trade show by himself.  Mom stayed with us.  We had fun.

She went to the gym.  A lot.  She said lots of people were gone so she had to teach lots of classes.  She taught 12 classes in 5 days.  She dragged me with her sometimes.  She says she likes to go to the gym because she gets to eat more chocolate.  Mom really likes chocolate a lot.

Kayla went to California with her friend.  Mom missed her.

We went out for dinner a lot.  Me and my brother and sister wasted a lot of food.  Mom says we are good at that.  We had to say goodbye to my Grandma and Grandpa Forsgren too.  We were sad.  They stayed here for 2 months and we had fun.  They love me lots, even though I wasn't always nice to them.

We had to stay at Grandma and Grandpa's condo because they were staining the cupboards in our kitchen. Mom freaked the worker guys out when she started speaking Spanish with them.   Mom says they didn't cover things with plastic good enough.  Her beautiful big piano was covered with a big layer of paint dust.  Mom had to clean and clean it today.  Thank heaven  Nidia was available to help clean up the mess.  It was very dusty and dirty everywhere.

We had to drive around in a little Ford Focus.  Mom's car is in the shop because her sunroof broke.  She says it has a warranty so they fix everything for free, and gave us the car!  Mom likes zipping around in a little car.  She drives kinda fast in it.   She should probably be more careful about that.  Kayla also loves the little car and keeps talking about getting one when she turns 16.  Mom says she should get a job.

Mom took me, Conner and Savannah and their friends to Red Mountain Park.  We played basketball, on the toys, and did a nature scavenger hunt.  Mom was trying to read a book while we were there, but I didn't let her! :)

Another night mom took us to the dollar movies to see Tangled.  She really wants to see it.  So did all the rest of the world.  It was sold out.  So, she bought tickets to Tron.  Mom was NOT thrilled about that.  Then, we had to kill 2 more hours until the movie.  We played at the playland at the mall, then ate dinner and rode on the double decker carousel.

We also found a real good salesman at Buckle.  Mom went in to see what was on sale.  He started throwing all these jeans at her making her try on all these clothes.  She bought 2 pair of jeans when she said she wasn't buying anything because she was just looking.  Mom said she had to buy them because they were extra long and on sale.  Jeans must be on sale a lot because if you saw mom's closet . . .

Yesterday, after mom played tennis, we went swimming with her friends and their kids.  I like to swim, even though I don't remember how to.  I am taking swimming lessons this summer and will learn the first week I'm sure.  Mom always has fun getting together with her friends.

Last night we went to Chili's for dinner.  We got chocolate milk to drink.  Conner heard mom ask if there were free refills.  The waitress said yes.  So, after Savannah had 2 refills, he told her she only gets one more.  Mom asked why.  He said, "Because you get Three Refills!"   Mom thought that was cute.

Then, last night at about 2:30 in the morning my tummy wasn't feeling good so I came into mom and dad's room crying.  Mom let me in the bed.  She really knows better than to do that, but I make it impossible to do anything else.  Mom says I am like an octopus in the bed, and I never stop moving.  I think that kinda frustrated my mom and dad last night.  Good thing they love me.

In the morning I was still crying and hurting.  My tummy hurt, and I told my mom I have a "Tummy Egg".  (Mom says it is tummy ache, but I am not grasping that yet).  Mom says I'm really cute.

Dad made it home safe from Vegas.  I think he enjoyed his time alone, and mom was a little jealous!!

Have you ever wondered . . . (part 2)

why your kids ONLY choose the night that you go to bed at midnight and have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to wake up and throw up all over their carpet at 2:30 in the morning?

Yeah, I wonder why too.  Let's just say mom was a little tired today. :)

But with a face like that, you can't be mad for too long!

Have you ever wondered . . .

What your kitchen would look like without cabinet doors?

Well, here's what mine looks like.  We figure if we are going to camp out in this house this year, we don't like the color of the cabinets, so we are getting them refinished.  Can't wait for the final product!  Hopefully he gets it all done this week like he promised!  Not looking forward to emptying everything out tomorrow.  Didn't I just put all that crap in there 2 months ago?  Oh well, hopefully it will be worth it!

On another note, we had a great mom and daughter night seeing Savannah's friend in The Sound of Music at the Broadway Palm on Friday night.

Savannah and her friend Jocelyn who played Marta.

Yeah - Kayla's gonna kill me for putting this picture on - but she's in California with her friend for Spring Break, so that's what she gets! ha!! :)  Love you lita! :)

Oh the things I get myself into!!

There's a song in the musical Oklahoma that's called, "I cain't say no!"  That should be my theme song.  Usually that is good, sometimes it isn't so good. :)

Three months ago my good friend Lisa asked me if I would be the MC of this big piano event that our music teachers association does every year.  I said, Sure, I'd love to!  That would be fun! Hmmm...

It is called the Cavalcade of Rhythm.  Over 400 piano students perform in this event at Mountain View High School.  Basically they have 20 pianos on the stage, and get 2 kids at each piano playing duets together.  It is pretty cool and lots of fun for them.  Plus it is good to help them learn proper counting, memorizing, etc.

Every year there is a theme.  This year the theme was Dancing Duos, and they were spinning off of Dancing with the Stars.  So, my job was to be the "Brooke Burke" of the show, and they had a guy to be the Tom Bergeron.  I told them I'd do it if the guy was taller than me.  He was 6 ft. 6, so it worked out great! :)

As the time got closer, and then I read the script of all the stuff we had to say, I started wishing I hadn't said yes!  Geez - now I know how actors feel when they have "bad material" to work with! ha!  No, really, how exciting or funny or entertaining can you make time-killing dialogue between numbers, and then introducing numbers.  There isn't a lot you can do, so we did our best to be entertaining.  Actually the guy was pretty goofy and funny, and I had to stand there and act like an airhead beauty queen.  So, that was the characters we did.

Savannah, and her cousin (who I teach) Hannah, played in one of the groups that I conducted.  They had fun and did a great job!

So, for one night I got to feel like I was going back to prom or something!  Now I have this fun dress that I'll probably never wear again, unless I go on another cruise and take it for formal night, right?

I have to thank mom and dad for finding and getting me the dress! I had been so busy I hadn't had time to find something to wear, and they found it and brought it to me and it was perfect!

Speaking of mom and dad - this is their last week here. :(  I have loved having them here for 2 months, and maybe if I'm lucky, they will come back again next winter and spend a little time!  I'm not sure our crazy lifestyle suits them all that much, but maybe we'll be lucky enough to get them back.

So, that was last weekend.  Fun, fun fun!

Rattlesnakes Basketball!!!

Our first stint as basketball coaches has come to an end.

We coached Conner's team. They named themselves the Rattlesnakes.

Lane wasn't thrilled that I signed him (us) up to be the coaches, but now, he admits he was glad he did it. :) See . . . wives always know best! :)

We had 10 boys. A couple of them are physically challenged, and maybe all of them are mentally challenged in one way or another! (ha!) But we loved it, and so did Conner. Check one goal off the bucket list!

P.S. - Can I just brag a little and tell how good our Conner is at basketball? That kid has serious talent! Can't wait to see what he does with it all!

P.S.S - Can I brag what a good coach Lane was?  There is something about a guy coaching kids that just makes them "that much more" awesome!  Very attractive . . . :)

A good day :)

Maybe it was because I got to sleep in until 6:30 this morning.
Maybe it was because for 2 days in a row, my aerobics classes have been packed full.
Maybe it was because it was sunny and beautiful.
Maybe it was because my boy asked me to pitch him some baseballs today and I did.
Maybe it was because he told me I was the best mom in the world because I play baseball with him.
Maybe it was because I had some yummy chocolate today.

I don't know. . . whatever it was . . . it was a great day! :)

Hope yours was too!
