An at-home photo shoot

What happens when you take a nice 2 hour nap on a Sunday afternoon?  This:

Kayla was bored and did "makeovers" on the kids and did a photo shoot.  Love it, love it, except my boy has mascara on!!!!  I know he has the most amazing killer lashes, but makeup on my boy is a HUGE no no!!!

And here's a picture of the finished room!  Painted, and cleaned up and with new carpet.  Still have to find some sort of window treatment, but what a relief to have it done! :)

What am I thinking???

I have to document this, so I can look back one day and say, "Yes, I really did all that!"

Summer means vacation for tons of people. When you're an aerobics instructor, you have to get people to cover your classes for you.  You help them, they help you.

Well, apparently, this is my week to help.  And I teach at 2 different gyms (actually 3, but I only teach once a week at the 3rd one, so it doesn't count), so I kinda feel loyal to both, and get hit up twice as much to sub!

Here's the week in a nutshell :

Monday:

5:15 am - my regular cycle class
6:15 am - my regular private tennis lesson
9:00 am - my regular Pilates class
4:30 pm - subbed a total body conditioning class
5:30 pm - subbed a muscle class

Tuesday
5:15 am - subbed another muscle class
9:30 am - taught my regular cardio class
10 am - taught my regular body sculpt class
11 am - taught my regular Silver Sneakers class (weights and exercise for older people)
**Turned down a chance to sub a step class that night.  My legs were sore!

Wednesday
5:45 am - taught my regular step class
9:30 am - subbed a cardio sculpt class
Spent the rest of the day painting my bedroom
Turned down another chance to teach an evening sculpt class.
Kind of my "recovery" day

Thursday
5:15 am subbed muscle
8:30 am subbed cycle
11 am subbed Silver Sneakers
7 p.m. singles tennis match

Friday
5:45 am taught regular step
8 am teach a CORE class (abs)
8:30 am teach regular step/cycle/sculpt class
9:30 am teach regular basic aerobics/sculpting class

Saturday
8 am sub advanced step
9 am sub muscle
10 am - DIE!!!!!!

So there you have it.  A not so normal week of working out.  Here's the funny thing - I've been eating*sort of* good, and don't even lose a pound!  Ugh!  You'd think that I could at least drop  5 lbs. with all this working out and good eating.  (Just don't count the cookie  dough I ate yesterday, or the chips and salsa I had the night before at Chili's!)

And here is the nightmare that is my bedroom.

I really painted it with all the furniture in there, pushed to the center, and tons of crap everywhere.  (I promise I always make my bed, but with this mess, why bother?)  I am sooooo sick of the little remodeling things we are doing.  All new baseboards - even in the closet - because you KNOW everyone looks at the baseboards in the closets! (ha!)

New carpet for the family room and our bedroom and stairs comes on Saturday.  New padding under the perfectly good carpet in the living room (someone want to come move our piano and huge armoir?) and even new carpet in the master closet - because again, everyone looks at your closet! :)

I hope I survive all this, and am so thankful for cleaning ladies to come and wipe the dust off of everything because it gets pretty dirty in here!

I think I earned a Triple Chocoholic Blizzard from DQ, do you?

Nice, or a little creepy?

Yesterday I subbed a Pilates class at our Rec Center.  I happened to mention to the class that I had a tennis match that night.  An older man in the class asked where I played and I told him.  He was asking what level I played, etc.  Anyway, after the class he came up to me and we started chatting some more about tennis.  He plays in a league and was asking what leagues I played in, etc.  He told me he is 75 and didn't start playing until he was 70!  That's awesome!

I told him I play in this singles league in the summer only and it is really fun.  He said he bet I was really good because of my stature and build and athleticism.  I guess you can tell that from a Pilates class?  (Julie - I promise I am a decent player with shoes on! ;)

He then says well maybe I'll run into you over there at the tennis courts some time!  I said yeah, maybe.

Well, guess who showed up that night to watch my match?  Yup, that man . . . and his wife!  My opponent (who happens to be an excellent player) and I were noticing this man was standing at the gate to our court and watching.  I didn't recognize him, and she didn't either.  Then I joked that maybe it was this man from my Pilates class.  Well, sure enough, it was him!

He was very nice, complementary, and I must say we gave him a great match to watch because we played pretty dang good.  He said we looked as good as the ASU college players he had seen.  Maybe he needs his glasses checked?

So, I thought that was very sweet that he came, and brought his wife, and stood there by the fence the whole time to watch.  He told me good job, and left just before we finished.

So I can't decide if that is weird or just nice?  What do you think?  One friend said once is nice, but if he comes again it gets weird?  I guess I'll have to see if he shows up next Thursday night!  Maybe I'll officially have my first tennis fan! ha!

MLB Baseball All-Star Weekend!!

What can you get for the bargain price of $1,100? Tickets to every event of an all-star baseball weekend, that's what.

Yes, Lane is a baseball fan, so he was thrilled to have Phoenix and the D-backs hosting the all-star game this year.

However, they sent his tickets to our old house, so he called his rep and asked where they are. After getting that all straightened out, the rep asked if Lane and his guest would like to help hold the American flag on the field. He said, sure! I kind of had visions of just Lane and I carrying the flag out on the field, (ha) but we found out there will be lots of us as the flag is huge.

Monday night Lane and Lars went to the Home Run Derby. Apparently some guy was by the pool at the back of the stadium and leaned over the railing to catch a ball with his mitt, with a beer in his other hand. He fell into the pool, but managed to keep his mitt with the ball and his beer out of the water! That was quite a catch!!

So, the game was Tuesday and we went down at 9 a.m. to "practice". We were done around 11:30 and met up with Lane's brother Bryce for lunch at Majerle's. After shopping and walking around for a few hours in the horrific heat of Phoenix, we went back to the game to be ready to help with the flag.

We went out on the field, and showtime started at 5. We had the flag unfurled and stood there through the whole opening ceremonies - about 15 mins. Frankly, it wasn't as cool as we thought it would be, but I think Lane loved being there with his baseball favorites, and he ran into a sportscaster that he likes so we snapped a picture.

(I have to mention that Lane's dad was nice enough to use our 2 tickets take Conner the day before to the FanFest at the Civic Center. They had a blast and stayed about 4 hours! )

It was a fun night, and the NL won (the Dbacks all-stars were on that team). So Lane was happy! Chalk up another great event and memory for the books! :)

On a totally different note - somehow I was able to pass up on the traditional Coldstone chocolate ice cream. I've been trying to be good. However, I made up for it today with a wonderful chocolate overload. Man, I need to check into rehab!

Happy 50th Anniversary Mom and Dad!

We had all 8 kids come home.  We had all but 2 of the grandkids.  There were 40 of us all together.  It was crazy and fun, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We all met up at the Logan Temple where mom and dad were married June 5, 1961. After the kids played at the park and some adults did sealings, we went to the Blue Bird Cafe for a buffet dinner, the exact same restaurant where mom and dad had their wedding breakfast 50 years ago!

It was good food, a fun program, and lots of laughs and memories. I am so thankful for such great parents who sacrificed and gave so much for their kids.

Lagoon - becoming an annual tradition.

It's an amusement park, and a water park all in one. And the kids absolutely love it, so there is no avoiding going there every year when we go home.
How fun that my favorite ride and favorite broadway musical have the same name. . . Wicked!
That ride is awesome.

AAAAhhhhh ..... Utah

Every summer I love going home.  Summer in Utah is sooo beautiful and green and cool at night.  How can you not love it?

Welcome home!

Backyard where we played lots of volleyball!

OK this darn collage thing isn't working so well - I had more pictures to put on here, but they won't upload! Anyway, here's a few descriptions for the pictures - you guess which goes with which! ha!

-Gorgeous sunset over the Great Salt Lake.  Nothing like running along Bountiful Blvd and watching that!
-Grandma and Addi at the bird show at the zoo (and a few other zoo shots)
-Savannah holding a grasshopper on her hand
-A cookie jar I painted in ceramics class when I was like 12.  Mom STILL has it on the counter.  I officially gave her permission (and begged her) to give it to Goodwill.  Hope she does.
-The 2 incredibly beautiful girls we turned loose on EFY at BYU.  Wow, those boys didn't stand a chance! :)
-Lunch with high school friends.  Love those girls!
- Savannah with our friend who now "trims" his arm hair after Savannah told him he should mow his arms just like he mows the grass, because they are really hairy.  Nice Savannah.

There are way too many highlights to the great time we had up there.  Next post is Mom and Dad's 50th Anniversary weekend extravaganza.
